The Start of Something Special
Little House of Arts & Smarts launched in 2023 but it has been in the heart of founder Kayla Wood since 2018. Her children had a desire to delve into the world of theater and after looking for an affordable midday program for homeschoolers, she realized there was a need that her family could fill. With that, Little House of Arts of Smarts was born. Fall 2023 marked the introduction of the Theater Arts program and it is steadily growing with new programs being dreamt up and added on a semester basis. Our goal is for there to be countless fine arts programs for homeschooled children as well as academic and enrichment opportunities.
Kayla Wood, Program Director
Kayla Wood is a child of God, wife to her high school sweetheart, and mother to four. In addition, she is no stranger to the arts, being on stage, and in front of the screen. Growing up, Kayla went to fine arts schools for her lower level studies. There, she fell in love with music, dance, and theater. In high school, she attended a school that offered a Broadcasting and Journalism academy where she spent much of her time learning the ins and outs of being a newscaster as well as the behind the scenes. Her college studies included coursework in vocal performance, theater (emphasis on musical), and dance. Kayla holds a B.S. in Liberal Studies with concentrations in Psychology, Sociology, and Child Development. In 2005, she had her first opportunity to teach children theater and dance. It has been something that she has had the privilege of doing off and on again through the years and she looks forward to it every time the opportunity presents itself.
*Fun Fact - Kayla danced in the 2004 Superbowl Pregame Show for artists Toby Keith, Williie Nelson, and Josh Groban!
